Our First Thoughts

We love the versatility of this model. At first, you may think it’s a simple screen hub, but it is a lot more than that. The main point of difference is that you can completely detach all the mesh walls and use it as a classic and simple canopy. For a robust and reliable shelter, we feel that this is a dependable choice.

It also leans to the affordable side, which is unusual for this size. It’s quite large with 90 ft² of ground space. You’re getting high-quality materials with a sturdy framework.

The roof in particular looks quite thick and able to protect from the harsh sun. Another great aspect is that there are two entrances. This is also somewhat rare to find with these kinds of tents, as there is usually only one spot for entry and exit.

What We Love – Our Top 3 Features

GOLD QUALITY – Telescoping Instant Set Up

The installation for this model is our first favorite feature. It’s speedy and can be done so effortlessly by one or two people. Using telescoping technology on the poles, all you need to do is unfold, extend, place the roof on top, and lock it into place.

Then, if you want the entire screen walls, you can easily attach those on. We love this feature because it makes things so hassle-free. When you can have it up in no time, you can sit and relax, soaking in nature, instead of taking 15 to 30 minutes setting up a complicated structure.

SILVER FEATURE – Detachable Screen Walls

We love the versatility that you get with this model. Unlike some other fully screened huts, you have complete control over which walls you want to set up. You can leave it as a traditional canopy with no walls or attach the mesh and protect it from elements like bugs and some wind.

Extends Outwards and Clicks Into Place Automatically

This multi functionality makes it perfect for every different kind of event. We can imagine taking it for a picnic trip, and when night falls and mosquitoes come out, you can pop the mesh on and keep the party going.

BRONZE HIGHLIGHT – Two Big Entrances

When the mesh is on, you have two options for entrance and exit. We think that this is so important for larger structures.

This is because there will be more people using it, so having more options to get in and out ensures that no one feels crowded or cramped. You can also fold back the mesh to leave the doors open so more than a few people can get in and out at one time.

Multipurpose Features

One of the most standout aspects about this model is that you can change it from a traditional canopy to a modern screenhouse in minutes. The screen walls are completely removable, and you can take them on and off separately. This gives you complete control over the kind of structure you want, which is something that we love as certain events call for certain protection.

Sometimes, you might want a simple overhanging cover that just provides shade from the sun. Other times, you may need more defence from bugs as well as sun, which is where the mesh comes in handy. When all the mesh is up, you have 2 huge entrance doors with long zips running down the middle.

You can leave them open and rolled to the side for seamless entry and exit or keep them closed to have full protection. Since the roof gets installed after the poles and the mesh, you can leave it as is without fumbling with the mesh.

Strong Structure

The framework of this model has been carefully thought out to ensure that such a large structure remains stable. Telescoping poles with the patented Comfort Grip have a push button on them.

This ensures that your fingers won’t get pinched in between the poles while you set them up or take them down. We appreciate that the button is large and ergonomic to comfortably fit any sized hand. The buttons are also bright red so you can easily locate them.

Another part of the frame that we love is the full steel welded feet. These are quite heavy-duty and make sure that it remains on the ground. They are robust enough to sit on any surface, including concrete and regular dirt or grass.

You’re also given steel stakes and some guylines to secure it to the ground when things get windy. With all the mesh off though, we recommend tying it down anyway as it’s a little more unstable without the walls.

Robust Materials

Double layered thick fabric, named by Coleman as Poly Guard fabric, is used for the roof and parts of the body. This thickness ensures that it is water resistant, meaning it won’t withstand moderate or heavy rain, but it will resist light precipitation.

It’s also highly resistant against tears and rips. We think this is such an important aspect as with the harsh sun rays and constant pitching and taking down, it needs to be durable to last years.

The main purpose for this thick material is ultimately protection from the sun. It has 50+ UPF protection so you can sit and relax underneath without worrying about getting burnt or overheating.

This is extremely important for use in warmer conditions, as the key focus is to have shade from the sun.

Set Up and Storage

The instant set up means that all the interior poles are already pre-attached. You don’t need any additional tools to pitch it up. In the case of this model, it is somewhat different.

The frame of poles come already put together, and then you need to place the roof cover on top. Once that’s done, you can extend the poles and the shape comes into form.

With two people, it will take under 3 minutes. If it’s your first time, it may take a little longer, but overall it is a fast installation time.

In terms of storage, you get a carry bag that has wheels on it. We think this is a smart addition as this is a rather heavy tent, weighing in at just over 45 lbs. It helps to be able to wheel it from your car to the site, without having to carry it around manually.

Most Asked Questions – We’ve Got You Covered

Can it be Pitched by 1 Person?

We do think it’s possible, but we recommend setting it up with two people so that you can easily lift the poles without hurting your back.

Is it Waterproof?

This is rated as water resistant, not waterproof. This essentially means that it won’t prevent leaks in mild to heavy rainfall, but it can stop leaks from very light precipitation.

Can it be Set Up Without Securing it Down?

As it’s freestanding, you do not have to pin it to the ground using stakes. However, we suggest securing it down as wind can be unpredictable.

Our Final Thoughts on the Coleman Screen House

As a super multi functional screen-house, it is certainly a classic choice to protect during the warmer months. You have the freedom to turn it into any kind of canopy that you want, choosing between a traditional roof shelter or a full camping hub.

You can take it camping, use it for backyard cookouts, tailgating parties, at the beach, and anywhere else you can think of. It packs down into a portable wheeled bag so you can take it everywhere.

At an affordable price for its high-quality materials, large size, and strong framework, we think this is worth every penny.
