CORE 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent Review

CORE 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent is today’s tent du jour.

Being in one of the more popular tent size ranges, it has received an overwhelming amount of use within the camping community and has shaped to be one of the best in its capacity range.

Constantly updated every camping season, the latest it has received an extra wall organizer which is integrated internally, so with the new fresh look, we decided to update our review of the new model.

This company is one of the leading manufacturers for outdoor shelters, producing products from Gazebos, to shower tents, to high-quality instant pitch tents, at a price point that won’t break the bank.

In addition, they like to load up their tents with as many features as they can, providing excellent value on return.

It’s no surprise that this model continues to follow that winning strategy.

Let’s begin.

What We Think

CORE 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent is a well-rounded tent at a good price. Large enough for group camping (or luxurious enough for solo camping), it sets up in under a minute even if you’ve never pitched a tent before. It can be used in every season except winter, and has excellent waterproofing features with a rain fly, sealed seams and waterproof coating on the fabric.

The craftsmanship is pretty good for a budget tent, using firm steel for sturdy legs, and lightweight polyester for the canopy and fly. Durable Polyethylene is used for the bathtub-designed floor, furthering longevity with additional waterproofing.

The airflow of this tent is also a highlight, with low to high ventilation providing customizable circulation. Re-packing the tent is as user-friendly as it comes with an expandable bag that eliminates frustration.

Our Personal Favorite Features

Easy Up, Easy Down

Like most instant tents, this one goes up pretty easily. With telescoping legs made from steel, setup is as simple as extending them out, propping up the tent, and staking down the corners. These fastpitch shelters that go up with minimal labor are becoming increasingly popular in the camping industry.

You don’t always have picturesque summer weather when you are setting up your tent, so an instant model definitely saves a lot of time when the conditions are less than favorable. Core also includes an expandable carrying bag that makes repacking this bad boy just as easy.

Many tent manufacturers haven’t grasped this concept yet, so when you come across a tent where they make the repack relatively painless, it’s a big bonus.

H20 Blocking Features

No one likes to camp when the rain hits, and it’s even worse if your tent does a lousy job at keeping you dry. H20 Block is Core’s patented anti-moisture technology. It comprises of a few key features:

  1. Treating the fabric with a polyurethane coating, forcing water to pill and roll off
  2. Inverted stitching that is multi-layered for increased protection
  3. A 600mm hydrostatic head
  4. Extra-wide and thick tape that is heat-sealed over the seams

If that wasn’t enough, they also designed the tent with a bathtub floor to keep ground water from seeping in, and the rain fly has awning support over the windows and doors.

24/7 Ventilation

Proper ventilation is imperative so that you always have fresh air in the tent. This is especially important if you are using a gas heater(s) that produces carbon dioxide, as it can be fatal. With a low to high vent system, these problems are eliminated. Two adjustable ground vents on the sides of the tent will bring air into the shelter.

Multiple windows work with the mesh ceiling to move the air out. This creates an excellent vortex of constant airflow. The windows are adjustable with zipper flaps, to help regulate airflow. They also provide shelter from the rain, as well as privacy.

Extra features are a sign that the manufacturer is always thinking of ways to enhance the customer experience. On the exterior, Core includes an entry mat attached in front of the door.

This comes in handy for keeping the inside of your tent clean, as you can store your footwear on it, or wipe your feet before entering.

The interior includes an overhead gear loft that also has a hook for hanging a light or lantern from. Additionally, there are sidewall storage pockets that can be used to keep your essential items at arm’s length.

Large Interior

99 square feet of space means you and your group have plenty of room to move around. The large D door has a height of 66 inches, while the interior of the tent reaches a peak height of 6 feet. This makes it easy for most people to walk inside the tent without have to crouch down to avoid the ceiling.

It can also hold two queen size mattresses, which should be inflated inside the tent to avoid problems getting them through the door. While it can hold 6 people, unless you are fine with being sardined next to them, the best idea is to limit the number of campers to around 3 or 4.

Materials

Core uses very good quality materials in the construction of their tents. For the canopy and fly, 68D polyester is the fabric of choice. This makes it relatively lightweight, while cutting down the wind and helping block UV rays.

As for the tent floor, it gets the 115 gsm polyethylene treatment, which is a more durable fabric to stand up to the foot traffic and workout that tent floors receive.

As always, it is advisable to use a footprint with your tent, as it will prolong the life of the floor. Structurally, the tent is very stable, using strong and durable telescoping steel uprights. This frame makes sure the exterior can take a pounding on windy days, while you are well protected inside.

Conclusion

It doesn’t matter what size, shape, or price point they are set at; one thing is always constant: CORE 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent continually stands out among its counterparts. Designed well from top to bottom, they make sure the tent you have purchased will serve you well.
