Materials
Even if you’re going for a budget option, you want to make sure that the materials being used are high-quality. This is because you want to be fully protected – no one wants a puddle forming in their tent or scratches turning into holes.
For the flooring, Polyethylene would be suitable, this is generally used and offers greater water resistance, stopping moisture from penetrating from the ground upwards.
Tent material and Rainfly are generally some forms of Polyester, although the water ratings vary depending on quality, a rating of above 500-800 would be desirable for summer camping. 1000 and above for those camping in rainfall.
Any form of RipStop or Denier Rating of 50 and upwards will be a good starting point.
The framework whether fiberglass or steel is fine for family camping. Fiberglass provides a lighter frame, easier to carry and manage, while a solid steel frame will be pretty heavy, but very stable because of this. Steel will be better for car camping, while fiberglass models will be ideal for those on the move.
There are variants that have fiberglass poles with steel hinges, as a happy medium for both.
Size
